Life Insurance

Basic Life and AD&D Insurance
Because life can suddenly take an unexpected turn, it’s good to know you’re covered if the worst occurs. Kindred provides basic life and AD&D insurance through Unum to assist you and your family in the event of a death or dismemberment (which includes loss of limbs, sight, hearing and speech). These benefits are fully paid for by Kindred. Note: Plan provisions may differ by division. Please refer to your benefit and enrollment options by visiting the Kindred Benefits Marketplace.

Benefits are equal to:

  • Basic life insurance: 1 times your annual salary, up to a maximum of $1,000,000
  • Basic AD&D insurance: 1 times your annual salary, up to a maximum of $1,000,000

Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance
You can also choose to purchase additional life or AD&D insurance for yourself, your spouse and your children. You pay the full cost of any supplemental life insurance and/or supplemental AD&D insurance coverage. You must purchase coverage for yourself in order to purchase it for your dependents.

Permanent Life
You also have the option to purchase permanent life insurance. With a permanent life insurance policy, you can be the policy owner and maintain the coverage, whether or not you leave your employer, for as long as you choose to continue to pay the premium. This option offers you the ability to provide lasting protection for your family. With the purchase of an employee permanent life policy, you may also purchase additional life insurance for your eligible dependents.

Evidence of Insurability

Life insurance over a certain amount may require evidence of insurability. After electing coverage, you will receive more information if you need to complete a Statement of Health.

Select a Beneficiary

It’s important to choose a beneficiary or beneficiaries to receive the policy’s benefit payment in the event of the insured person’s death. You should designate your beneficiary(ies) on the Kindred Benefits Marketplace website.
