401(k) Plan
Kindred offers a 401(k) plan to help you save for retirement. Kindred’s 401(k) plan is administered by T. Rowe Price, a leading provider of 401(k) plan and money management services.
In order to help you start saving as soon as possible, all employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan the first of the month following one month of service, with the exception of Personal Care Attendants/Assistants.
Your contributions to the 401(k) plan are deducted from your paycheck before income taxes are taken out—a pre-tax deduction. This means your reported income is lower, so the amount the government deducts for taxes from your paycheck is lower. Your savings will continue to grow tax-deferred until they are withdrawn. The example below shows that a bi-weekly 401(k) contribution of $40 reduces take-home pay by only $32.
Contributing to the Plan | Not contributing to the Plan | |
---|---|---|
Bi-weekly pay | $1,000 | $1,000 |
401(k) bi-weekly savings | ($40) | $0 |
Taxable income | $960 | $1,000 |
Taxes (at a 20% tax rate) | ($192) | ($200) |
Take-home pay | $768 | $800 |
